Dance for the Music Theatre II DANC 2371

This semester you will continue to learn techniques applicable to all forms of dance and movement for the music theatre, but will also learn how to do a ballet barre and folk/ballroom dance steps. You will also learn about dance history related to the Music Theatre. You will participate in vigorous physical activity and must attend all classes and laboratory sessions.

Course Requirements

You must sign the roll each time before class begins. You earn part of your grade first by the actual number of professor/accredited signature lines. In order to be accredited, you must: 1) Participate fully in a heightened physical and mindful manner for the entire class, which begins at 12:05 PM and ends at 1:20 PM.  2) Show, through your class work, the results of 3 to 5 hours of weekly outside-of-class practice of dance technique and mind/body practice. 3) Use the web site for all assignments and announcements. You must also read Broadway Ballet and be able to answer all questions on line.  4) You must attend at least two of the dance concerts at the Chamizal this semester and will be asked to write about them on the final.


You earn 1 point for each accredited signature. Signatures are accepted for UTEP performances, not rehearsals, but you are responsible for all material presented in missed class.  Otherwise, excused absences do not exist! For the written final, 90% = 5 points; 80% = 4 points; 70% = 3 points; 60% = 2 points; 50% = 1 point. You will earn 2 points for each performance assignment done well according to previous instructions, 1 point for each acceptable performance assignment.  There will be five graded performance examinations or pop-quizzes, total 10 points.  Your final grade will be based on: 55 points = A; 53 points = B; 51 points = C; 49 points= D.

Go to events, see dance!!! The City of El Paso Arts and Culture Department sponsor three dance concerts each spring. You must attend at least two of them. The El Paso Scene will have all information necessary.
